President's Corner
Following are some of the highlights from our April 21, 2011 meeting:
- Enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by our caterer, Teena Peters.
- Welcomed guests, Dr. John Boggess and Mike Sievers of MVCTC. Dr. Boggess gave an interesting and informative presentation on the history and mission of MVCTC.
- Lion Richard Stroh was the winner of Lion Do You Know? The question was “How tall is the Washington Monument?” Lion Richard correctly answered that the monument is 555 feet tall.
- Lion Do You Know? for our next meeting is, “Who was president when the White House got electricity?”
- Pot of Gold winner was Lion Richard Mathias who won the sum of $2.60 which he donated to the Emergency Fund.
- Heard a thank you from Lion Ivan for the club’s support during his time of grief.
- Lion Carl Weisenbarger announced that our Mother’s Day Flower sale is going well. To date 70 dozen have been sold and he challenged the group to sell another 50 dozen. Remember the order deadline is April 28. Because there will be no extra flowers ordered, it is very important that you order the flowers you need by April 28.
- Preparations for our annual golf outing are continuing as reservations for teams are coming in. If you know someone who likes to golf, encourage them to get a team of 4 together or have them contact Lion Lucien or Lion Winston if they have no team, but would like to play. It isn’t too late for a team to be added. Lion Carl is again heading up the food committee. This group is a very vital part of our outing. Without them, we would not be able to have as successful an event as we do.
- Were informed that the Scholarship Committee has met and our two scholarship winners and our Citizenship and Service winner have been selected.
- Lion Dennis reported that his bowling team at the District 13-E Bowl Down Alzheimer’s Tournament on April 16 represented our club well, but was not able to come away with any prizes.
- Club was informed that the Easter Egg Hunt in conjunction with the Arcanum Fire Dept. will not be held due the planning issues.
- Lion Dick Mathias asked if anyone would be interested in visiting North Hampton Lions on May 9 to help them celebrate their 60th Anniversary of their charter. Let Lion Dick know if you are interested so plans can be made.
- Club approved a slate of officers for 2011-2012. New officers will be inducted at our June meeting.
Dates to remember:
- Next meeting is May 5 at 6:30 pm at Faith Church. Menu: Baked chicken, cheesy potatoes, buttered corn, 7 layer salad, homemade bread, cookies/cookie bar, iced tea, and coffee. Program will be a stained glass demonstration by Dr. Delbert Blickenstaff.
