President's Corner
Following are some of the highlights from our March 4, 2010 meeting:
§ Welcomed guest Zone Chair, Lion Bill Edwards who shared that the Gettysburg Lions will hold a potpie dinner on March 27 at the Oakland Church of the Brethren
§ Welcomed Rev. Cordell Brown of Echoing Hills Camp who presented an interesting and informative program about Echoing Hills.
§ Club members were informed that the Bradford Lions are holding a Pancake and Sausage Day on March 6.
§ Club members were informed that District Convention will be held April 9-10 in Springfield.
§ Lion Robert Loy won the Pot of Gold drawing of $2.50 and donated the money back to the emergency fund.
§ Lion Winston Brumbaugh gave the correct answer to the Lion – Do You Know question, “What 2 universities have the most presidents as alumni?” The correct answer was Harvard and Yale.
§ Lion – Do You Know question for next meeting is a double twister. “Who was the youngest person to become President and who was the oldest elected President?”
§ Proposals from the Executive Committee concerning possible projects to be funded from Projects Budget were presented in order of priority placed on them by the committee but not binding to the club members. 1) Ivestor Park renovation project. 2) Reinstitution of Citizenship and Service Award. 3) Gifting additional money to area food banks. 4) Adopting 1or 2 needy families. 5. Trash container replacement There was some discussion about projects, but no official vote due to a lack of a quorum. It was suggested that the executive committee consider the items again and return to the club next meeting with new proposals containing specific amounts for each project.
§ The golf outing committee reported that plans are under way and that letters will be sent to all clubs in the District inviting them to enter teams with the possibility that a certain portion of their fees will be donated to a Lions project in the name of the club if the team is a first time entry in our outing.
§ Our Annual Chicken BBQ will be on May 22 during Old Fashion Days.
§ Members were again reminded that the following leadership positions need to be filled for 2010-2011: President, 1st & 2nd V. President, Secretary, and 1st year directors. These positions are vital to the continued viability of the Arcanum Lions Club. Please consider stepping forward to fill one of these positions.
§ Remember if you put in a reservation to attend and cancel too late, our club must pay for the reservations that the president calls in. If you can’t cancel your reservation, please try to reimburse the club for the cost of the meal.
Keep in mind the upcoming events:
§ Next regularly scheduled meeting will be on April 1 at 6:30 pm at Faith Church. Christy Prakel will give a presentation on the Hope Foundation. Menu will be: Baked ham, escalloped potatoes, green beans, homemade rolls, homemade pie, ice tea, and coffee.
§ April 15 – meeting will feature Krista Fourman of the Darke County Solid Waste District.
§ April 25 – Annual golf outing
§ May 6 – meeting will feature Shelley Brinley of Johnston Chiropractic
